William Kentridge is coming to Brooklyn, Lynda Benglis is featured in Artforum, Ai Weiwei is chatting with visitors in Toronto, and more in this week’s roundup:
- William Kentridge: Anything Is Possible will screen for one-night only at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on September 12 at 7pm. Anything is Possible, directed by Susan Sollins and Charles Atlas, gives viewers an intimate look into Kentridge’s mind and creative process. The artist will be present for a post-screening Q&A. - Lynda Benglis: Everything Flows (1980–2013), recently on view at Locks Gallery (Philadelphia, PA), is featured in the September 2013 issue of Artforum. The show “encouraged viewers to think of [Lynda Benglis‘s] imposing metalized pleat pieces and intimately scaled ceramic sculptures as closely related bodies of work, despite their significant formal discrepancies,” writes Bibiana Obler. Artforum is on newsstands now.
- LaToya Ruby Frazier is one of many artists featured in tête a tête, a group exhibition curated by artist Mickalene Thomas. On view at QF Gallery (East Hampton, NY), this is the third iteration of the exhibition. New artists are invited to participate every time. “Thomas is interested in the performative way in which male artists use their physical presence and body in relation to the viewer, and the way many female artists see themselves through the gaze of another (often male).” On view through September 15.
- Ai Weiwei will participate in a live video chat with visitors and the director of the Art Gallery of Ontario during AGO First Thursdays on September 5. The program will include discussion of Ai’s constant surveillance at his home in Beijing. He been unable to leave China since the government confiscated his passport in 2011.
- Janine Antoni has a show coming up at The Mattress Factory. The self-titled exhibition “will feature new work by Antoni that explores the human condition while speaking directly to the viewer’s own body.” On view September 13-March 30, 2014.
