Lucas Blalock explores the hot dog in nine large-scale photographs now on view at White Flag Projects (St. Louis, MO). “Clinically presented and stripped of their usual context,” writes Malcolm Gay, “the images enable viewers to reconsider their subject—in this case the hot dog—as both a form and an object. It’s as though we’re seeing, alas, a hot dog for the first time.” Lucas Blalock: Late Work closes December 20.
- Works from Jenny Holzer’s series Pear’s Truisms and Survival (2013) are featured in the group show Words Tend to be Inadequate at Pearl Lam Galleries (Shanghai, China). The LED signs (created for Holzer’s 2013 exhibition at Pearl Lam’s Hong Kong gallery) are written in Chinese, “reminiscent of signage found on the busy streets
of Hong Kong and Shanghai.” Closes January 10, 2015.

- Works by Ellen Gallagher are included in Speaking of People: Ebony, Jet and Contemporary Art—a collection of over thirty artworks inspired by Ebony and Jet magazines—at the Studio Museum in Harlem (New York, NY). Closes March 8, 2015.
- Sweet Talk: A Lecture by Kara Walker took place at the Radcliffe Institute at Harvard (Cambridge, MA) on December 8. Video of Walker’s complete lecture will eventually be available online. In the meantime, two excerpts have been posted on YouTube, here and here.
- Jeff Koons designed the jacket for producer Brian Grazer’s upcoming book A Curious Mind: The Secret to a Bigger Life. Grazer said, “When we began discussing a design for the jacket of my book, Jeff Koons was the first person I thought of. His pieces have always spoken to me—they are suffused with positivity.” A Curious Mind will be released on April 7.
