- The director of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg believes the collection of artifacts in museums worldwide will make it possible to rebuild Palmyra, the ancient Syrian city destroyed by ISIS.
- A graduate student at the M.I.T. Media Lab, Marcelo Coelho, collaborated with the artist Vik Muniz to draw the image of a castle on a single grain of sand using an electron microscope with a focused ion beam.

- Season 5 artist Carrie Mae Weems won the Anderson Ranch Arts Center’s 2016 National Artist Award for her decades-long career creating powerful photographs.
- Tania Bruguera launched a Kickstarter campaign aimed at raising funds to establish the Institute of Artivism in Cuba, a space dedicated to artistic activism. She also restaged her participatory performance Referendum yesterday in Union Square.
- This Thursday, March 10th, Season 1 artist Mel Chin is speaking with The 8th Floor’s artistic director Sara Reisman from 6-8pm, in a talk titled a few words and a few notes.
- Of a Different Nature, an exhibition with works by Maya Lin and El Anatsui is closing this Saturday, March 12th at Jack Shainman Gallery.

- March 7th – March 14th, 10am-6pm — BRIC House will be projecting Ivana Basic’s Palette of Finity all week as part of their Garage Door Video Series.
- Friday, March 11th, 7:30pm — WNYC’s Brian Lehrer is using a live video chat to interview Edward Snowden and filmmaker Laura Poitras, whose documentary on the former intelligence officer, Citizenfour, won last year’s Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

- Feeling nostalgic? Don’t Look Back: The 1990s at MOCA is opening this Saturday at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
- The 1623 book that saved eighteen of Shakespeare’s plays including Julius Caesar and Macbeth, will be on view in the new exhibition First Folio!, opening tomorrow March 8th at the Detroit Institute of Arts.
International
- Human Scale, a new exhibition that explores the evolving relationship between sculpture and the body is opening at the National Gallery of Canada this Friday, March 11th.
- TEFAF Maastricht (The European Fine Art Fair) opens this Friday for its 35th edition in the Netherlands. The ten-day fair features work from 250+ galleries.
