This was an award-filled week for artists on the ART21 roster! Season 7’s Trevor Paglen won the 2016 Deutsche Börse prize for his drone photography, and Kerry James Marshall was awarded the University of Chicago’s 2016 Jesse L. Rosenberger Medal for Outstanding Achievement in the Creative and Performing Arts. Not to mention Season 5’s Doris Salcedo, who was announced as the first recipient of the Nasher Prize, an annual award for sculpture the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas. In other news:
- A new Tate film takes an intimate look at the life of Louise Bourgeois.
- Season 8 artist Theaster Gates is working on plans for a new art center in Chicago, across from the potential site of Obama’s presidential library.
- And in ART21 news, our 2015 New York Close Up short “Lucas Blalock’s Digital Toolkit” has been named an official selection of the 2016 Art of Brooklyn Film Festival. You can attend the festival’s screening of the film on Saturday afternoon.

- Tuesday, June 7th | 6-8pm —The first artist-run super PAC, For Freedoms is opening their first exhibition tomorrow at Jack Shainman Gallery’s 24th Street location. Founded by photographer and conceptual artist Hank Willis Thomas, the group is comprised of dozens of artists including Edgar Arcenaux, Rashid Johnson, Titus Kaphar, Trevor Paglen, Dread Scott, and Carrie Mae Weems.
- This week is your last chance to see Edvard Munch’s The Scream! Munch and Expressionism closes next Monday at Neue Galerie.

- HUDSON, NY — A Portrait Of Marina Abramovic, a 3-D video installation by Matthew Placek, opens this Friday, June 10th at the Second Ward Foundation, where it will remain on view till the 26th.
- NEW HAVEN, CT, Friday June 10th | 7:30pm — Yale School of Art is hosting a free lecture by Season 4 artist Judy Pfaff.
- LOS ANGELES — Cindy Sherman: The Imitation of Life opens Saturday at the Broad Museum.

- HONG KONG — Gabriel Orozco’s latest work, a series of 80 watercolors, is installed at White Cube Hong Kong until August 20th. [Read reviews in Wallpaper and in the South China Morning Post.]
- TURIN, ITALY — An aquarium installation by Pierre Hughye is on view at the Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea until November.
