On Tuesday, the new U.S. Embassy in London opens with the unveiling of a work by British artist Rachel Whiteread, who has been commissioned alongside Jenny Holzer and Mark Bradford to create large-scale, site-specific works for the new building. Bradford’s We The People (2016)—32 panels containing the entire U.S. Constitution—will fill the atrium of the new embassy when it is installed in February. And Jenny Holzer’s quote call-out project, featuring quotes selected by students in the U.S. and the U.K., will be carved in granite on a wall besides the embassy’s water features.

- On Tuesday, Creative Time raises the eighth flag in its Pledges of Allegiance series, this one designed by Pedro Reyes. Entitled Hands On With A Vision, the flag belongs to the artist’s People’s United Nations project, an experimental conference featured in Season 8 of Art in the Twenty-First Century.

- On Thursday, Mitchell-Innes & Nash will open two simultaneous exhibitions of recent work by Eddie Martinez at the gallery’s Chelsea and Madison Avenue locations, entitled Love Letters and Yard Work respectively. On view through February 24.
- This Friday, LMAKgallery is opening Carried on Both Sides: Encounter Two, the second installment of Caroline Woolard’s collaborative project featured in her latest New York Close Up film. Encounter Two will be open through February 25, 2018, and Encounter Three will be presented at the Knockdown Center this summer.
Atlanta
- The Hammonds House Museum is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a new exhibition of work by Carrie Mae Weems, From Here I Saw What Happened and I Cried, opening Friday. Featuring the artist’s photographs and her film People of A Darker Hue, the exhibition exposes photography’s key role in shaping social injustice throughout history.
Tuscon, AZ
- Etherton Gallery’s new exhibition Mementos, on view through March 3, features the work of three photographers: Rodrigo Moya, Masao Yamamoto, and Graciela Iturbide.
Los Angeles
- A new exhibition at the Hammer Museum presenting a selection of video installations from the museum’s collection is entitled Unspeakable: Atlas, Kruger, Walker. Featuring the work of three Art21 artists, Charles Atlas, Barbara Kruger, and Kara Walker, the exhibition opens Saturday and will be on view through May 13.
Toronto
- Opening Wednesday, Figures of Sleep, a new exhibition at the University of Toronto’s Art Gallery features the work of Liz Magor, Louise Bourgeois, Bruce Nauman, and Gabriel Orozco, and will be on view through March 3.
Gwacheon, Korea
- This is the last week to see Reenacting History: Collective Actions and Everyday Gestures at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Korea. Featuring the work of Marina Abramović, Ai Weiwei, Allora & Calzadilla, and Mika Rottenberg, the exhibition closes this Sunday, January 21.
Osaka, Japan
- A new exhibition at the National Museum of Art, Osaka features work by Teresa Hubbard and Alexander Birchler, Theaster Gates, Allora & Calzadilla, Marina Abramović, and Paul McCarthy. Entitled Travelers: Stepping into the Unknown, the show opens this Sunday and will be on view through May 6.
