Get ready: Eleanor Antin returns to perform a very special reading through the @Art21 Twitter account tomorrow, Wednesday, January 30, from 3:00–4:00 p.m. EST.
Through posts of 140 characters or less, the artist will “read” stanzas of a story from her memoir, Conversations with Stalin, before moving on to the Brooklyn Museum and the Whitney, where she’ll complete the last of her New York City–based performances.
Our event sees the artist continuing her interest in experimenting with platforms such as Twitter as a new medium for performance. After the previous performance, the artist noted “an intimacy between me and the listeners/readers that starts to build.” The format introudces a participatory element that allows the audience to read along with Antin, as opposed to a one-way reading from the artist to the audience.
Antin encourages audience participation throughout, and will respond to questions submitted by audience members following the live Twitter “reading.”
Until then, we will welcome advance questions via Twitter or by way of comments on this post. A full list of the artist’s New York City performances is below.
