NPR Berlin’s coverage of the Foreign Affairs Festival included a segment on William Kentridge, and his series of lecture-performances centered around the festival’s theme: uncertainty. “Uncertainty means giving the work the benefit of the doubt,” Kentridge says. “Uncertainty is a polemic against the idea of certainty itself – every claim of certainty is always authoritarian.” Also this week:

  • Past ART21 Magazine Writer-in-Residence Jessica Lynne, alongside Taylor Renee Aldridge, Jessica Bell Brown, and Kimberly Drew just launched The Black Art Incubator, a “social sculpture” developed throughout a series of public events designed to create an art-world intervention. The first events, tackling Art + Money, are happening July 19, 20, and 21st at Recess. The project continues through August 19th.

  • TORONTO | Wednesday, July 20th at 7pm—Theaster Gates is giving a talk in conjunction with his new exhibition Theaster Gates: How to Build a House Museum, opening this Thursday, July 21st at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
  • VIENNA—Ai Weiwei’s latest exhibition, translocation – transformation opened last week at Belvedere Palace. Investigating the “metamorphosis provoked by expulsion, migration, and deliberate change of location,” the exhibition continues through November 20th. [Read a review in Artnet.]
  • LONDON—Work by Season 6 artist Marina Abramović is included in the “Performer” section of Performer/Audience/Mirror, a new exhibition that runs through August 27th at Lisson Gallery.
