New writer! Introducing Nicole Caruth

Art21 is pleased to welcome Nicole Caruth to the blog. Nicole is a freelance writer and curator based in Brooklyn. She holds an MA from the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, and earned a Bachelor’s in art history at San Francisco State University. Before moving to New York, Caruth was Director of the University’s Cesar Chavez Art Gallery. She also worked as Gallery Manager at the San Francisco Art Commission’s African American Art and Culture Complex. Caruth has frequently contributed to Might Be Good, a contemporary art e-journal produced by Fluent~Collaborative, and Open Door Contemporary Art Projects, a developing web-portal for contemporary art. Her personal blog, Contemporary Confections, merges two of her greatest loves: art and sweet foodstuffs. Her writing has also been published by the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Archives and Museum Informatics, and in the near future, Gastronomica: The Journal of Food and Culture (May 2008). Forthcoming projects include co-curating an exhibition of feminist art in the Brooklyn Museum collection. Since 2005, Caruth has been the Museum’s Manager of Interpretive Materials.
