Cancelled, Erased & Removed at Sean Kelly Gallery

“Cancelled, Erased & Removed” graphic. Sean Kelly Gallery. June 21 – August 1, 2008.

On view at Sean Kelly Gallery through August 1, 2008, Cancelled, Erased and Removed explores the conceptual and formal practice of contemporary artists canceling, erasing and removing elements from their work. The conceptual point of departure for the exhibition: Robert Rauschenberg’s Erased de Kooning (1953).

From the website: “[This exhibition] is not a survey, nor does it attempt to include all the artists who have explored this subject matter; rather it is a presentation of a specifically selected group of artists who have taken a particularly interesting, innovative or non-traditional approach to these themes.”

Art21 artists Janine Antoni (Season 2), Alfredo Jaar and Jenny Holzer (both Season 4) are included in the exhibition along with Josh Azzarella, John Baldessari, Mike Bidlo, Slater Bradley, David Ellis, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Douglas Gordon, Marine Hugonnier, Callum Innes, , Titus Kaphar, Idris Khan, Yves Klein, Joseph Kosuth, Peter Liversidge, Richard Long, Jorge Macchi, Anthony McCall, Ana Mendieta, Ed Ruscha, Julião Sarmento, Yuken Teruya and Gavin Turk.

Sean Kelly Gallery is located at 528 West 29th Street, New York. Hours in July are Monday through Friday 10am-5pm.
