MANIFESTA 7

Manifest7 home page.

Dubbed “The European Biennial of Contemporary Art, ” Manifesta 7 begins on July 19 and runs through November 2. The exhibition occurs in a different city every two years, but this is the first time Manifesta will take place in a whole region: Trentino – South Tyrol, Italy. The exhibition includes venues in four cities along a course of 150 kilometers: Fortezza (Bressanone), ex Alumix in Bolzano, the Palazzo delle Poste in Trento, Manifattura Tabacchi, ex Peterlini and the train station in Rovereto. Manifesta 7 comprises works by more than 230 artists, architects, writers and experts from around the world; most works were specially made for this exhibition.

Past participants of Manifesta include Art21 artist Pierre Huyghe (Season 4). Click here for a complete list of 2008 participants.

In an effort to position Manifesta as “an environment in which everyone feels comfortable enough to ask questions and to engage in discussion,” the education program will not only be presented on a didactic level, but will also encourage discussion and interaction. Guided tours in English, Italian and German are available during opening hours, as well as a range of special projects, education materials and activities for school classes. Two Teach-In sessions on July 17 and 18 offer an opportunity to meet the Education staff and learn more about the various activities offered, which includes 48 parallel events in South Tyrol and 50 in Trentino.

Manifesta 7 exhibitions are open to the public everyday from 10am to 7 pm and on Friday from 10am to 9pm.
