Weekly Roundup

In this week’s roundup: Kim Kardashian wears Barbara Kruger, Collier Schorr makes art about a German village, Jeff Koons works from popular archetypes, several artists are in group shows, and more.

• Barbara Kruger collaborated with W magazine to display Kim Kardashian dressed only in the art of Kruger, who worked on the front cover for the November 2010 Art Issue.

• Video installations by Arturo Herrera and Catherine Sullivan are featured in Adaptation at the Philbrook Museum of Art, which explores work by video artists who have adapted original material to create new works by re-envisioning classic literature and other forms of media.  This work is on view until January 9, 2011.

• Works by Bruce Nauman, Cindy Sherman, and Yinka Shonibare MBE, among other artists, are part of Lust and Vice: The 7 Deadly Sins from Dürer to Nauman at Kunstmuseum Bern (Switzerland).  The exhibition presents works of art related to the seven deadly sins from the Middle Ages to the present and is on view until February 20, 2011.

• Sculptural Paintings which features work by artist Judy Pfaff is on currently on view at Braunstein Quay until November 6.

• Journals & Notebooks, which features art by Collier Schorr, will be on display this week at the 303 Gallery (NYC).  This exhibit shows work that continues to explore the daily life in the small town of Schwäbisch Gmünd.  This exhibition will be on view October 29 — December 4, 2010.

• Jeff Koons has a third solo exhibition at the Jérôme de Noirmont (Paris).  Jeff Koons Popeye Sculpture features the artist’s uses of popular archetypes such as flowers, toys, wedding, hearts, etc. which are stored in the collective unconscious.  This show is on view until November 20.

• In other Koons-related news, the Royal Academy of Arts has made the artist a new honorary member.

• Next month ,The Anderson Gallery will present The Nameless Hour: Places of Reverie, Paths of Reflection, which features a video installation by Janine Antoni.  Antoni’s work contributes to the overall aim of the show, which is to pay attention to physical elements of the world and of landscape.  The exhibition will run from November 19 — February 20, 2011.

• Great news for Barry McGee fans. The University of California’s Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive has been awarded a $100,000 grant from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts for a Barry McGee retrospective exhibition in 2012.
