New Guest Blogger: Mike Chang, Artist, Singapore

A big thanks goes to Stephen Lacy for his lovely series of guest blog posts exploring the residual impact of an artist’s residency–in his case, spent at The Good Hatchery in Ireland. You can learn more about Stephen’s work and Academy Records by visiting his website.

Next up, I’m very happy to bring back Mike Chang, an artist and educator living in Singapore who previously guest blogged for us exactly one year ago! Over the next two weeks, Mike will fill us in on the latest issues and happenings in Singapore’s contemporary art scene; he tells me that “just off the top of my head, the hot ‘key words’ these days are #SGwithdrawVeniceBiennale, #privatespace, #conditionforart, # communityart, #newgalleries, and #curatorialpractices.”

Mike was born in Taiwan, and educated in the United States.  He received his MFA from California Institute of the Arts. Ever since he finished that degree, he has been teaching art in Singapore.  Now he is an artist-in-residence at an independent high school, where he teaches journalism and new media through a student-initiated broadcast news production team. Mike also runs a small art space called FOXRIVER in the school’s building, where he exhibits works by artists from different parts of the world. The artists are introduced to his students via conversations on Skype. Mike has also collaborated with an art collective called Hayama Projects which is based in Yokohama, Japan.  He is also an editor/writer for a soon-to-be-launched online arts journal called Locale, which will focus on contemporary art practices in Southeast Asia.

Welcome back, Mike!
