- Mel Chin: Disparate Acts is at Rowan University Art Gallery (Glassboro, NJ). The exhibition focuses on studies, drawings, and photographs that question the objectivity, reliability, and integrity of information, facts, and events when compromised and corrupted by a political, social, or cultural agenda. An artist lecture and reception is scheduled for September 17 at 5pm. Disparate Acts closes November 1.
- Laurie Anderson will lecture at the Mitchell Center (Houston, TX), discussing her legacy of interdisciplinary collaboration, on September 10 at 7pm. Anderson’s past collaborators include Wim Wenders, Jonathan Demme, Bill T. Jones, Trisha Brown, and Robert LePage. Tickets are limited. For free reservations, click here.
- Do-Ho Suh’s exhibition Drawings opens at Lehmann Maupin (New York, NY) on September 11. The two-part show features a range of the artist’s works on paper, including his unique “thread” drawings and large-scale rubbings. Closes October 25.
- Robert Adams: A Road Through Shore Pine opens at the Fraenkel Gallery (San Francisco, CA) on September 11. The exhibition features eighteen never-before-seen photographs that Adams made in Oregon in the fall of 2013. Concurrently, the gallery presents Robert Adams: The Complete Books 1970–2014, a survey of the artist’s deep involvement with the book form. Both exhibitions close November 15.
- Liz Magic Laser collaborates for the first time with mother, Wendy Osserman, at the University of North Carolina’s Carolina Performing Arts Center (Chapel Hill, NC). From North Carolina to South Korea combines Laser’s multimedia performance art with her mother’s choreography. Two performances are scheduled, one on September 13 at 8pm and the other on September 14 at 2pm.
- An exhibition of ink and collage works by Mike Kelley opens at the Skarstedt gallery (New York, NY) on September 11. Reconstructed History “offers new insights into a lesser-explored area of the artist’s diverse oeuvre.” Closes October 25.
- Trenton Doyle Hancock is the 2014–15 Downing Pryor Distinguished Visiting Lecturer at the Memphis College of Art (Memphis, TN). Hancock will lecture on September 13 at 6pm, following a special reception in the Rust Hall Main Gallery. Both events are free and open to the public.
- Marina Abramovic will be at Mana Contemporary (Jersey City, NJ) for MAI@MANA-1, a 72-hour continuous workshop, running October 17–19. Abramovic will share exercises she has developed during her forty years as an artist, teacher, and curator. “This workshop will be a collective performance as well as a solo journey for each person who participates,” said Mana Contemporary President Eugene Lemay. Tickets are available online and will be sold in twelve-hour windows.
