In happy news this week, New York Close Up artist Mary Mattingly worked with MoMA teen artists to convert a two-ton military trailer into a social space dedicated to breaking down barriers. And the Mike Kelley Foundation announced plans to fund an artist project that will bring mini-golf to Los Angeles’ Skid Row. Created by the activist group Los Angeles Poverty Department (LAPD) and artist Rosten Woo, The Back 9: Golf and Zoning Policy in Los Angeles is an interactive installation that examines the effect of zoning codes on underprivileged LA communities.
- Ai Weiwei recently announced his latest project: a feature-length documentary on the refugee crisis, although some have doubts about the artist’s ability to emphasize the refugees’ struggle over Ai himself.
- The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is opening to the public this week! The new building opens its doors this Saturday, May 14th. SFWeekly listed Richard Serra‘s Sequence as the expanded museum’s first highlight.
- See Cindy Sherman‘s latest photographs in a new W Magazine slideshow, created as a preview of her current exhibition on view at Metro Pictures until June 11th.

- Thursday, May 12th | 7:30pm — The 92nd Street Y is hosting a conversation between Jeff Koons and art collectors Eli and Edythe Broad to discuss the collaborative process between artists and collectors.
- Flag Art Foundation’s exhibition Cecily Brown, Jeff Koons, Charles Ray is closing this Saturday, May 14th.
- Half Moon, a new work by Abigail DeVille, is on view as part of Socrates Sculpture Park’s latest exhibition LANDMARK, on view till August 28th.

- LARAMIE, WY — This is the final week to view Emancipating the Past: Kara Walker’s Tales of Slavery and Power at the University of Wyoming Art Museum. The exhibition closes this Saturday, May 14th.

- BRIGHTON, UK — Laurie Anderson served as guest director for this year’s Brighton Festival, and she’ll be performing in it three times this week. The most interesting performance comes tomorrow, May 10th with Music for Dogs—a 20-minute concert featuring music only audible to canines.
