Tomorrow a new book on artist Kara Walker is being released by University of California Press. Written by the Getty Research Institute’s Head of Research Projects and Programs, Rebecca Peabody, Consuming Stories: Kara Walker and the imagining of American race uses Walker’s work to “investigate a range of popular storytelling traditions with roots in the nineteenth century and ramifications in the present.” Also in the news this week:
- Last Saturday, Mark Bradford’s nonprofit Art + Practice launched a new 6,000-square-foot gallery space with a debut show, Black, White, Gray, an exhibition of works by sculptor Fred Eversley.
- The Louvre Abu Dhabi announced two site-specific commissions by artists Jenny Holzer and Giuseppe Penone ahead of their projected 2017 opening.
