It’s a quiet week as the world winds down for Thanksgiving, but the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston recently announced that it will be opening its new location, the ICA Watershed in East Boston, next summer with two artworks by Season 8 artist Diana Thater.
Thater’s installation Delphine—the subject of a 2016 Art21 Extended Play video—will serve as the exhibition’s center. It’ll be accompanied by the artist’s recent sculptural video installation, A Runaway World, which focuses on species close to extinction and the illicit economies that threaten their survival.

New York City
- A new exhibition at the Museum of the City of New York celebrates the last fifty years of public art in the city. Featuring documentation of seminal projects like Richard Serra’s Tilted Arc, and Kara Walker’s A Subtlety, Art in the Open: Fifty Years of Public Art in New York will be on view through May 13, 2018.
- Whoop Dee Doo artists, including Jaimie Warren and Matt Roche, began working on an on-site installation in the Knockdown Center’s annex last week. Members of the public are invited to engage with the artists and their installation during open-door workdays on Saturdays from 2-7pm, through the exhibition’s closing on December 17.
Providence, RI
- Carrie Mae Weems’ Kitchen Table Series is on view in Brown University’s List Art Center lobby through December 21.
Vancouver
- A new gallery in Vancouver, The Polygon, opened its inaugural exhibition over the weekend—N Vancouver—featuring work by Jeff Wall and Stan Douglas among others. On view through April 29, 2018.
Melbourne, Australia
- This Thursday in Parkville, Victoria, the University of Melbourne’s Ian Potter Museum of Art is opening the exhibition All the better to see you with: Fairy tales transformed. Featuring work by Kiki Smith and Kara Walker, the exhibition presents contemporary art alongside a selection of historical fairy tale books, and will be on view through March 4, 2018.
Sandvika, Norway
- On Friday Marina Abramović’s exhibition The Cleaner is traveling to the Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, where it will be on view through March 11, 2018.
Johannesburg
- And on Saturday, Goodman Gallery’s Johannesburg location is opening a solo exhibition by El Anatsui entitled Meyina. Meaning “I am going” in Ewe, Meyina features seven large-scale sculptural installations by the artist and will be on view through December 20.
