Introducing ART21 Educators: Year 6

Today ART21 is opening applications to Year 6 of our year-long professional development initiative, ART21 Educators. The program is designed to support K-12 educators interested in bringing contemporary art, artists and themes into their classrooms.

ART21 Educators begins with a 6-day summer institute in New York City, and continues throughout the school year with distance learning sessions and support from a virtual community.

A couple of key changes make this upcoming year of the program different from Years 1-5:

  • Educators across all disciplines, not just arts and humanities educators, are invited to apply. By bringing contemporary artistic practices to learning in the math and science realms, we hope to expand application of the arts to encourage critical thinking and creative problem solving in students, regardless of subject matter.
  • Previous years have sought applications from educators in teams, accepting pairs of arts and humanities teachers from the same school or community. This year, applications are only being accepted from individual educators. The Art21 Educator program has changed to a mentor-mentee model, and accepted applicants will be paired with an alumni mentor from the program to develop lasting one-on-one relationships committed to expanding artistic practices in classroom environments.
